The new policy says that students will not submit applications for rectification of names, correction of grade sheets, an announcement for withheld results, inter-college transfer and reevaluation of answer scripts etc., to the university authorities directly. They will have to submit such applications to their respective colleges.

GU Deputy Controller of Examinations issued a notification in this regard today. The notification, addressing principals and vice principals of general degree colleges affiliated with Gauhati University, said that the introduction of the semester system of examinations at the college level led to an increase in the number of examinations, besides complexity. The number of applications for correction of examination documents, chapters of subjects, grade-sheet etc., has risen in the past few years, leading to an increase in the responsibility of colleges to supply required documents to the students. The notification said that the university also tries to dispose of the applications at the least possible.

A section of students alleges negligence on the part of the college authorities. There are also media reports of students not getting the required cooperation from college and GU authorities from time to time. GU has revised the procedure for receiving applications regarding examinations of a degree course to dispose of the issues without taking much time.

The notification said that from January 1, 2023, the university would not receive such applications from students. According to the amended rule, the students will have to submit their applications to their respective college authorities, who will send such applications at an interval of one month or 15 days to the office of the deputy controller of examinations of the university through messengers or speed posts. After disposing of the issues, the deputy controller of examinations of the university will send back the responses to the colleges through speed posts.
